The Ballad of Patrick Higgins
Well my name is Patrick Higgins and I am recently deceased
I left behind two daughters and a wife name Denise
I was born in Gary, Indiana and I grew up there too
And I share that birthplace with another face that might be familiar to you
The T.V. screens around the world were displaying his face
and the radio played Billie Jean a million times that day
but my name was parked defiantly in the back of the Gary Times
and it said: “He died of natural causes at the age of 85.”
Cause I died on the day that Michael Jackson passed away
but I just slipped off and no one noticed that I was gone
My poor brother Robert, he took it as a sign
that I died on the same day as somebody so divine
so he set up a memorial fund in honor of me
giving scholarships to college kids who drink and get degrees
Now there’s lots of decent people who leave us everyday
and their names are not engraved in stars on the sidewalks of L.A.
But they worked hard while they were living and they were happy with what they had
and I have found that that’s the only thing that matters in the end

Eurydice

My sweet Eurydice
the music that's inside me no longer sets me free
all I want right now is for you to be with me
my sweet Eurydice
Do you remember all the letters that I wrote?
I don't know if you read them or if they went up in smoke
If I could write them again
I would sing your name over and over again.
My sweet Eurydice
I'll spell it E U R Y D I C E
I'd give you the whole world if you'd only come with me
my sweet Eurydice
Remember when you wanted your name in a song
well I put your name in a song
And I’ll sing my music
at the gates of hell
and I'm singing your name
over and over again.
My sweet Eurydice
You know that I love you, so why won't you talk to me?
We've know each other for centuries!
my sweet Eurydice
Remember all the things that we did
we went ice skating
I wore a red sweater.

Silences
04:34
|

I had a dream last night
I kissed you awake
And you laughed because my kisses tickled your face
And I sat on the edge of the bed and you rolled over and said its way too early
But I said no you gotta get up I've got something to show you honey
And I was there, yes I was standing tall
When the children began to grow up
When the buildings began to fall
And I see you in my nightmares but also in my dreams
I cannot believe the silences are never what they seem
I try to tell you my feelings with my hand on your back
I try to send you understanding to make up for where words lack
But inside I'm still a shy shy boy I'm twelve years old
Not to mention on account of bad circulation my hands are really cold
I don't want to wake up every day and pretend
I'm alright, I'm o.k., I can start new again
'cause every silence lasts accordingly
to what we could do
every moment is like gravity
that's pulling me to you
Why can't we open up
talk a bit
make a sound
cook a meal
read a book
take a walk on the ground
'cause I would like to be your lover
and I would like to be your friend
every day's an endless cycle of waking up again.

As we pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears,
While we all sup sorrow with the poor;
There's a song that will linger forever in our ears;
Oh Hard times come again no more.
It’s a song, the sigh of the weary,
Hard Times, hard times, come again no more
Many days you have lingered around my cabin door;
Oh hard times come again no more.
As we seek mirth and beauty and music lights our way,
There are frail forms fainting at the door;
Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say
Oh hard times come again no more.
